BELTARA'S FLAME, CD
7/14/84 - 11/9/96

|
While all dogs are special, once
in awhile that extra-special one comes along. I've had a few, and Flame
was one of them. She was my first Pharaoh Hound. I had never
seen a Pharaoh Hound except in a magazine before she came
along. I was told that Pharaoh Hounds were dumb and barked
all the time.
Totally untrue!
Flame was extremely intelligent and hardly ever barked. I
immediately started training her for obedience.

Flame excelled at
obedience. She scored in the high 190's for her CD and was good
enough to qualify for the Gaines Regionals. Since they were being
held close by that year, I entered. I was thrilled to be going and
looked forward to meeting other sighthound people. Ha! Most
of the dogs there were Border Collies, Shelties and Goldens. There
was only one other hound entered -- a Bassett! Flame qualified in
all three rounds, although she did do one down-stay more or less on her
back. She scored in the low 190's and high 180's. Not
too bad at that level!
I trained her for open and
showed her several times. She never earned a CDX leg though,
as she developed a serious bug phobia. If she even perceived a bug
anywhere near her person, she was gone, history -- outta there!
